When you think of renewal, often we think of rebirth; something old dies and something new is born. We all want renewal. Something has not worked well for a long time and we feel we need to renew ourselves. renew our thoughts, behaviors, habits, friendships, just to mention a few.
Most people have goals of how to renew ourselves. They want to improve themselves. they want to become better. People want to drop bad behaviors and flaws and improve their overall well being. But there is a challenge toward renewing ourselves, most people do not want to let go unfavorable behaviors and orientations they have been holding on to. They have become slaves to their flaws. The tragedy is, they have equated these flaws with who they are.
For example, there is nothing inherently wrong in playing pool game. However, if doing so stands in the way of accomplishing your set objectives, rethink whether it is an identity that serves you or if perhaps it is time to give it up so you can renew yourself and start working on other things that are more consistent with the person you want to become.
Who is the old you and who is the new you? How often do you engage in the behaviors of the old you and how often do you manifest the traits of the new you? Shift the balance toward the new you and one by one, eradicate the undesirable old behaviors.
And you know what? Any time that feels right to you is the right time to reflect on yourself and the life you want to live. Renew yourself where necessary.
